I imagine the first artist made his mark by moving a stick around in the sand. At some point, another artist discovered that a burnt piece of wood applied to a rock actually created an image that endured for a period of time, especially if protected from the more brutal elements of nature. And thus it all began. Man's interpretation of his world became recordable.

I liked the scene in the movie,
The English Patient, when the archaeologist discovers paintings of swimmers on a cave wall which is located in the middle of the Sahara Desert. Were the pictures representational of actual water occupying that spot of the earth's terrain, or were they simply the imaginings of a traveler far from his home by the sea?

If there is one thing the human species is consistent about, it's our willingness to communicate with one another. We have a long history of creating records of our experiences. We love to tell a story.

The web has become our most recent medium. It gives us the opportunity to record the many varieties of our experience. My name is Zoe Margo. This site is a reflection of some of mine.
